The fresh NBA recruit for the New York Knicks in 2021, is putting up quite the sportsmanship at the basketball court. He caught the crowd’s attention with his breakout game against the Milwaukee Bucks where he managed to score seven three-pointers with three rebounds and assists each. Although it wasn’t a win for the Knicks, things seem to be looking good for Grimes. “The talent is there with Grimes. He’s really a plug-and-play wing player who will impact any given game either with the ball in his hands or moving off-ball.” writes Adam Kester in The Daily Knicks.
Did you know Quentin Grimes with his high school and basketball records, was projected to be the top five pick for the NBA draft? Although he was the 25th pick in the 2021 NBA draft, the young player’s college legacy looks promising. Even in his high school at The Woodlands College Park High School in Texas, Grimes graduated with an average of 29.5 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game, leaving his school team College Parks Cavaliers’ stats at a record high.
Quentin Grimes College Career
Before we dig deeper into Grimes’ college career, we need to mention how the amateur player was recruited to play for the FIBA Americas Under 18 championship for the National Team where Grimes got named MVP for his tremendous performance, with the USA taking the Gold.
Quentin Marshall Grimes on 15th November 2017 signed up with playing college basketball for the University of Kansas in Texas where the player is originally from. It’s not surprising to know that over eight universities including offers from Kentucky, Texas, and others were on his table, from which he made his pick and started on his college basketball career with a boom. In his very first game, he scored 21 points and six three-pointers.
After finishing his freshman year with an average of 8.4 points per game, Grimes withdrew from the University of Kansas and applied for the 2019 NBA draft. This is where the player was suspected to be the top 5 picks, however, Grimes didn’t follow through and withdrew his name from the draft, deciding to transfer to Houston.
Ending with the Kansas Jayhawks, Quentin started with the Houston Cougars where he as a sophomore scored a season-high record of 32 points. Added with a further great game performance from the player, including the game on December 4 where he scored 21 points and 6 rebounds in a game against the Texas State. The player was honored as the American Athletic Conference Player. His 8.4 points per game average increased to 12.1 points per game record with his sophomore year at Houston.
This followed a grand game on February 25, where Quentin Grimes scored his highest scores ever – 33 points with 8 three-pointers. After winning a game against Cincinnati, Quentin was named the AAC tournament MVP.
As a junior, his 12.1 points per game average record increased to 17.8 points per game average record with 2.0 assists per game and 5.7 rebounds per game. After he was named co-winner of the AAC Player of the Year award, Grimes ended his college career finally deciding to play officially for the NBA. And with that starts the 21-year-old, Quentin Grimes’ NBA career and we are all eager to see his success flourish.
