Rafael Nadal spends an hour training with rival star in hopes of landing 2020 Mexican Open

Rafael Nadal is the top seed for the 2020 Mexican Open and was training with Alexander Zverev

Spanish star Rafael Nadal would be looking to bag the 2020 Mexican Open and trained with rival star Alexander Zverev.

This is the 27th edition of the tournament for the men and the 20th for the women. Nick Kyrgios is the defending champion in the tournament, but there are doubts about his participation.

The Australian was carrying an injury and missed the Delray Beach Open, and he would get a chance to restart his rivalry with Nadal.

It was Kyrgios who knocked Nadal out of the 2019 Mexican Open and it will be interesting to see if the pair face off again.

However, the Spaniard continued his tradition of training with rivals as he played an hour against German star Zverev.

Reports claim that Nadal practised at centre court for an hour and was watched closely by his coach, Carlos Moya.

This isn’t the first time Nadal has done this and trained with some of his rivals before the Australian Open too.

That tournament didn’t go well for the Spaniard as he failed to grab his 20th Grand Slam.

Nadal has won an incredible 12 French Opens from his 15 trips to Roland Garros, and he could match Roger Federer in picking up 20 Slams.

However, Federer will not participate in the 2020 French Open as he underwent knee surgery recently.

Novak Djokovic could be the main rival for Nadal at the French Open, and it will be interesting to see how things progress in the coming months.
