Rajeev Ram: Personal Life

Born to parents Raghav Ram and Sushma Ram, Rajeev began playing tennis at a young age. However, table tennis and cricket are some of the other sports he enjoyed growing up.

He went to Carmel High School and completed his college education at the University of Illinois. He got married in 2016 to Zainab Saqib. Ram enjoys spending time with his family and has a charity for kids named EntouRaj.

Rajeev Ram: Early Career

The Rajeev Ram showed great promise in his junior career. He won nine national junior titles in singles and doubles combined. While in high school, Ram earned All-State honors and became the state singles champion. He also earned a scholarship in both 1998 and 1999.

He earned a wildcard entry into the Juniors’ 2001 US Open and became runner-up in the junior doubles at the 2002 Wimbledon alongside Brian Baker. Ram competed in all four Grand Slam junior tournaments.

In 2007, Ram bagged five doubles Challengers titles partnering Bobby Reynolds. He won his first career Challenger-level title in Winnetka, Illinois in 2008.

2009 turned out to be a memorable year for Ram as he won his first ATP singles and doubles title. His doubles title came in Chennai, India alongside fellow American Eric Butorac.

In 2009, he achieved the unique feat of winning four professional-level tennis matches on the same day. He won his first singles title in the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships by defeating Sam Querrey in the final.

Ram won his most recent singles ATP title at the 2015 Hall of Fame Tennis Championships by defeating Ivo Karlovic in the final.

In the 2016 Summer Olympics, Ram won a silver medal at the Olympic games alongside Venus Williams in the mixed doubles event.

Ram retired as a singles competitor in 2017. He won his first doubles Masters title at the BNP Paribas Open. A couple of years his first mixed doubles Grand Slam title at the 2019 Australian Open, partnering Barbora Krejcikova. Ram and Salisbury won their first Grand Slam title at the 2020 Australian Open.

Ram and Krejcikova once again won the mixed doubles event at the Australian Open in 2021. He won another major title at the US Open in the doubles event alongside Salisbury.

In 2022, Salisbury and Ram won the US Open for the second straight year. They defeated Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski in the finals. Ram became the oldest first-time world No. 1 in the doubles rankings on October 3, 2022. He is the 18th American to reach the top of the rankings.

He won 57 singles matches and lost 93 in his career with a win percentage of 38 (in ATP World Tour, Grand Slam main draw matches, and in Davis Cup). Ram won two titles and reached a career-high ranking of 56 on April 18, 2016.
