Rangers vs Bayer Leverkusen Prediction: Rangers line-up
Rangers are set to host Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday in the Europa League knockout stages at the Ibrox.
Steven Gerrard’s men were not at their best recently. However, they would be heading into this game on the back of a narrow 1-0 win over Ross County in the Premiership. Nothing but a win at home would ensure the Gers’ safety ahead of the return leg.
On the other hand, Leverkusen have also done well so far and would be hoping to snatch a victory against the Scottish side.
Team News
Jermain Defoe’s return to the squad last week has been a huge boost for the side. Filip Helander is still recovering from a foot injury and will be out for some time.
James Tavernier picked up a knee injury and will continue to be on the sidelines and Ryan Jack is also doubtful for the game after being absent last weekend.
Predicted Rangers XI
Formation: 4-3-3
Allan McGregor (GK)
The Scotsman has revived his career since his move to Glasgow. He is the first-choice in goal for the Gers and would be hoping to keep another clean sheet.
Matt Polster (RB)
The USA international is expected to fill the right-back spot in the absence of club captain James Tavernier. He will need to do better and help the team’s attack.
Conor Goldson (CB)
The Englishman has been excellent for the team so far, making him an undoubted starter. However, he looked shaky in the last outing and should be able to guide the defensive line at his best.
Nikola Katic (CB)
The 23-year-old is expected to return to the starting XI after missing out against Ross County. He will be partnering with Goldson in the heart of the defence.
Borna Barisic (LB)
The Croatian has been key to Rangers’ attacking unit. He will be expected to provide a handful of crosses to the targetman.
Steven Davis (LCM)
The former Southampton man put in a normal performance in the previous outing but is expected to feature in the absence of Scott Arfield. He should look to dominate the opponent’s midfield in this fixture.
Glen Kamara (CDM)
Kamara has not been the same as he was when he arrived. He needs to be dominant and should play a key role in stopping Leverkusen’s attacks.
Joe Aribo (RCM)
The Nigerian youngster is an undoubted starter as he has been improving. He will be key in unlocking the opponent’s defence and will be crucial in the final third.
Ryan Kent (LW)
His confidence would be boosted as he scored the only goal to secure a win for Rangers in the last outing. He is expected to retain his spot.
Ianis Hagi (RW)
Hagi has been in excellent form since signing for the Gers in January. He was outstanding in the win against Braga and will be expected to do the same.
