Tecia Torres began her martial arts journey practising Taekwondo at the age of three. She received her black belt 12 years later, and went on to have an amateur Muay Thai career where she had a record of 16 wins and 4 losses. She is also a black belt in karate and a blue belt in jiu-jitsu. She is currently ranked number 7 in the UFC women’s strawweight division.
Torres made her professional MMA debut back in October 2016, and won the fight by unanimous decision. She went 4-0 in Invicta FC with impressive victories over current champion Rose Namajunas, Paige Van Zant, and Felice Herrig. With a 4-0 clean record, she was signed to the UFC later on.
She made her UFC debut against Angela Magaña in 2014 and won the fight by unanimous decision. After winning her first three fights inside the octagon, Torres would then move on to fight former rival Rose Namajunas. Unfortunately for her, she lost the fight via unanimous decision, but went on to rack up three straight wins post that. The period from 2018 to 2019 were the worst in her career as she lost four straight fights all through decisions.
Since then she has won three straight fights in the quest for a career resurgence and another run for the title.

Outside the octagon, Torres spends most of her time with her longtime girlfriend and fellow UFC fighter Raquel Pennington. The pair are a few of the openly gay fighters competing in the UFC.
Pennington is an American mixed martial artist that fights in the bantamweight division. She made her professional debut in March 2012 and had immediate success inside the cage. After a break of about a year, she returned in 2018 to fight at UFC 224 in a high-profile match against Amanda Nunes, in which, for the first time in UFC history, two openly gay fighters face each other. As a teenager, Pennington had a girlfriend whose father was a professional boxer, and every time she visited her, she took some time to box on the punching bag that her girlfriend’s father had hung in the basement. When she was called up for “The Ultimate Fighter 18” in 2013, it was her mother who drove her all night from Colorado Springs to Las Vegas to make it in time for the show.
