Why Real Madrid would do the right thing by loaning out Brahim Diaz
According to Marca English, Serie A giants AC Milan are interested in signing Real Madrid starlet Brahim Diaz on loan this summer.
Including Milan, as many as 20 clubs have shown an interest in the 21-year-old, but AC Milan may have an upper hand, due to their cordial relations with Los Blancos. (h/t MARCA)
Profile
Having started out at the academy of Malaga, Diaz moved to Manchester City in January 2014. The attacking midfielder rose through the ranks to make his first-team debut for the Citizens in September 2016, aged 17 years. Diaz went on to make just 15 first-team appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side, scoring two goals in the process.
With no pathway to the first-team, Diaz left Manchester City to return to Spain, joining Real Madrid in January 2019 in a deal worth €17m plus €7m in add-ons.
However, game time has been hard to come by for the Spaniard at the Santiago Bernabeu. Till date, he has turned out just 21 times in 18 months for Madrid, scoring twice and setting up three more. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Diaz’s departure will not affect Real Madrid
As things stand, Real Madrid have a plethora of options for the attacking midfield position. Spanish international Isco was a regular in Zinedine Zidane’s team last season, while Luka Modric can also operate in such a position.
Furthermore, Real Madrid will now be able to call upon the services of Martin Odegaard, who has returned after a successful loan spell at Real Sociedad, where he scored seven goals and set up nine more.
Oscar Rodriguez is also back from his loan stint at Leganes, where he produced a return of nine goals and two assists in 30 La Liga matches. This ought to bolster Zidane’s options further.
Given all this, Diaz, who just featured just ten times in all competitions this past season, will have struggled further for game time. Thus, sending him out on loan, where he will get regular first-team opportunities would be a good move for the club, as well as the player.

Verdict
Brahim Diaz is a talented youngster, but is unlikely to get a lot of game time at Real Madrid as things stand. Thus, time out on loan where he would play regularly would help his development.
