Real Madrid willing to make an offer for Paulo Dybala – Do they need him?

According to Calciomercato (h/t Daily Mail), Real Madrid are planning to make an offer for Paulo Dybala. The said offer would be a swap deal which would include Isco and Vinicius Jr. heading to Turin. Both players have come under the scanner recently regarding their performances and behaviour. Nonetheless, the Juventus forward has been a long-term target for Los Blancos.

Dybala, 26, came through the youth ranks of Instituto Cordoba and joined Italian side Palermo in 2012. His impressive performance with the club earned him a move to Turin with Juventus, where he established himself as one of the best forwards in Europe.

He scored regularly at a decent rate in his first four years with the Old Lady. However, his form took a dip last season. But he took his game to the next level under Maurizio Sarri, scoring 17 goals and providing 14 assists in 46 games across all competitions (source – Transfermarkt).

He has played just 3 games this season under Pirlo though. The forward has featured 29 times for his national side, scoring twice.

Do Real Madrid need Dybala?

It is no secret that Real Madrid have struggled with goals ever since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo. The signing of Eden Hazard was supposed to ease matters but his fitness and injury issues have hardly helped. It was only their sturdy defence that won them the league.

The club have a good batch of young forwards at their disposal like Marco Asensio and Rodrygo, while Jesus Reinier is loan. They do lack an established goalscorer though. Karim Benzema is single-handedly carrying the goalscoring responsibilities but he looks to be slowing down.

Verdict

A player like Dybala would solve a lot of those issues. He may be struggling for form this season but the forward is as prolific as it gets. In the presence of Ronaldo, he managed to get into double figures in terms of goals and assists in the league and that says something.

With a swap deal being proposed, it does not look too bad for Real Madrid. Isco has hardly played a big part after the return of Zidane and Vinicius has only displayed glimpses of his potential. Getting Dybala who is an established goal-getter as well as a creator seems like a good deal for all.
