HomeSports NewsRed Bull superstar Max Verstappen still looking for first podium finish at Azerbaijan GP

Reigning world champion Max Verstappen will be hoping to step on the podium for the first time this weekend as F1 action moves to Baku.

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen enjoyed a stunning 2021 season when he won 10 races en route to claiming his maiden F1 Drivers’ championship. The Dutchman won at Abu Dhabi in the final round of the season with a dramatic last-lap overtake on Lewis Hamilton to snatch the crown away from the Briton.

He has also begun the 2022 season strongly despite 2 DNFs for Red Bull this campaign. In the seven races so far, Verstappen has finished on the podium each time that he has crossed the chequered flag. The 24-year-old has won four races and secured a third-place finish in Monaco last weekend.

Max Verstappen is yet to finish on the podium in Baku

Verstappen will now be hoping to continue his record of four consecutive finishes on the podium when F1 actions shifts to the Azerbaijan GP this weekend. In the four times that he has raced in Baku, Verstappen has managed to cross the chequered flag only once, which was a fourth-place finish in 2019. On the other four occasions, he failed to finish the race.

On the back of a good run, Verstappen will be hoping to lift the curse of Baku this weekend. Last year, Verstappen was leading the race until a puncture caused him to crash out.

Verstappen is currently leading the Drivers’ championship with 125 points, nine ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez is in third place on the standings, with 110 points.
