Reggie Harding was a former NBA player who was killed by a dope dealer after his retirement from the league. In a short career, Harding played for top NBA teams including the Detroit Pistons, Chicago Bulls, and the Indiana Pacers. Reggie Harding was addicted to drugs and alcohol. In the NBA, he was suspended 11 times. Reports indicate he carried a pistol wherever he went. Harding was involved in controversy during his high school days. He was accused of raping Florence Ballard, an American singer and a member of the Motown vocal female group, the Supremes. The incident took place in 1960 at the Detroit Ballroom.
All Reggie Harding Criminal Activities
Reggie Harding was never a good friend as he threatened his own teammates with guns. He also intimidated the general manager of the Indiana Pacers, Mike Storen. In 1966, he was suspended from the NBA. The suspension brought more issues to Harding. He was addicted to heroin and sex. In 1968, he was shot by cops . He was arrested in 1969 and kept in the Southern Michigan Prison. Reggie Harding was released in 1971 and he wanted to return to the NBA, but he was denied an offer.
Reggie Harding’s stint with the Detroit Pistons didn’t go well. He was criticized for his on-field behaviour. Harding never went on time for practice sessions and he also missed the team’s flight once. In 1965, he was accused of attacking a Detroit policeman over a parking ticket issue. The NBA management suspended him under assault and battery charge. Harding paid a fine of $2,000 and missed the next season.
After completing his punishment at the prison, Reggie Harding returned to his house in Detroit. When Harding went out with his friends on September 1, 1972, he was killed by Carl Scott. Harding and Scott were friends and spent time together at prison. No one knows why Carl Scott shot Reggie Harding. Reports reveal Harding was shocked when Scott took out his gun, and he requested him to shoot him on his head.
Reggie Harding had great talent and he was a skilful player. His on-field behaviour and criminal activities ruined his NBA career. He was called the clown by some of his teammates and NBA coaches as well. In the end, Drug, Heroin, and Attitude killed him.
