2nd seed Cameron Norrie locks horns with Bolivia’s Hugo Dellien in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Rio Open on Friday.
The 27-year-old narrowly missed out on bagging his 5th ATP title as he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the finals of the Argentina Open. Norrie began the tournament with a solid performance against Juan Manuel Cerundolo and registered a 7-5, 6-1 victory.
The British No. 1 went on to face Thiago Monteiro in the round of 16. Norrie managed to convert only 5 out of 21 break points as the home favorite tried to hang on. Eventually, Norrie managed to win the closely-contested encounter in two competitive sets 7-5, 7-5.
Dellien didn’t have a memorable time in the Argentina Open as he was ousted in the first round by Tomas Martin Etcheverry. In the round of 32 of the Rio Open, Dellien produced a scintillating display to outplay Joao Sousa. The Portuguese veteran lost in straight sets 0-6, 2-6. Dellien had a win percentage of 90 on the first serve and converted 5 out of 7 break points.
In the round of 16, Dellien managed to come back from a set down against 9th seed Alex Molcan and win the match 1-6, 6-2, 6-2. In this clash, Dellien showed great grit and determination. He also converted 5 out of 8 break points. This win must have given Dellien a great deal of confidence and he will need it when he faces the world No. 13.
This will be the first meeting between the two players. Therefore, the head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0.
Prediction: Cameron Norrie to win in three sets.
