6th seed Sebastian Baez will face world No. 139 Nicolas Jarry in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Rio Open on Friday.
The 22-year-old came into the tournament after having a disappointing campaign in the Argentina Open where he was ousted in the first round. In the round of 32 of the Rio Open, Baez produced a dominating performance to defeat Thomaz Bellucci in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. The Argentine youngster had a win percentage of 80 on the first serve in this encounter.
In the round of 16, Baez took on Juan Pablo Varillas. This turned out to be a close affair but Baez did well to not allow the match to go into the third set. Baez won the match 7-5, 7-6 (8-6). He converted 6 out of 8 break points in the encounter.
