Roger Federer will have a lighter schedule this season and opted out of the Australian Open in 2021.
Federer was recovering from knee surgery, which curtailed the 2020 campaign. The Swiss Ace also decided not to feature in Australia due to their strict Covid-19 protocols.
He withdrew from the Dubai Duty Tennis Championships due to a chest infection in 2020, and was supposed to miss the French Open after undergoing knee surgery in February.
This year too, the Swiss Ace seems to have a limited schedule with the French Open a doubt. The US Open, The Olympics and Wimbledon are some of the big tournaments that Federer has hinted at playing, but all of this is subject to change.
It is difficult to say when his next match will be. Federer made his season debut at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in March 2021.
However, the Swiss star got a bye in the first round and won the second round match against Daniel Evans.
Federer then exited the tournament in the quarterfinals stage after a three-set loss to Nikoloz Basilashvili.
There is no confirmation of when Federer will play his next match as he was expected to feature in Dubai after Doha. However, Federer is now training and hasn’t decided on his 2021 French Open participation.
Roger Federer didn’t have too many tournaments to look forward too in his 2021 schedule. Covid-19 restrictions and injuries already took him out of the Australian Open but there are some other big tournaments on his mind.
