Roger Federer has already won the previous three editions of the Laver Cup and the 2020 edition is on his schedule
Swiss great Roger Federer recently confirmed that he will feature in the upcoming Laver Cup tournament as part of Team Europe.
20-time Grand Slam winner Federer had earlier cut down on his schedule for the 2020 season after opting to sit out due to knee surgery.
Federer is set to miss almost three months of action after undergoing knee surgery last month. However, the 38-year-old is expected to make a return by mid-June, right in time for the grass-court season.
“Can’t wait to play in Boston for the first time. It is always epic to play in a historical sporting arena like the Garden. Let’s make it 4 in a row Team Europe”, Federer posted on his Instagram feed.

Federer has represented the European outfit in all three past tournaments and has won them all.
Federer not assured of selection
It remains to be seen if Federer will be on the list of players representing Europe.
The criteria for selection involves three of the total six players in the team qualify based on their ATP singles ranking following the French Open.
Federer had announced that he would not feature in this year’s French Open and this could see him fall down the rankings.
There are three ‘captain’s picks’ too which could see Federer slot in.
It remains to be seen how quickly Federer could make a comeback and start playing. He is 38 already and has for the past few years been cutting short his schedule in a bid to increase his longevity in the professional circuit.
Former British player and ATP commentator Naomi Cavaday also recently expressed her doubts regarding his return saying it would be ‘ridiculous’ to expect Federer to return and instantly be at his usual high level.
The Swiss ace should also focus on his recovery before planning to return to certain competitions. Anything can happen during this stage and Federer isn’t the young gun that he was before.
Federer has had several injury problems in the past, and return to full-fitness should be his target. The 2020 Laver Cup could have waited, and hopefully, the Swiss ace is back to his best soon.
