Stere and Tania Halep were blessed with a baby girl on 27 September 1991 in Constanta, Romania. They named her Simona. She has a brother named Nicolae who is five and a half years older. Simona’s father played football for AS Sageata Stejaru before working as a zootechnics technician. Later, he became the owner of a dairy products factory.
Halep started playing tennis when she was just 4 years old. She received immense support from her father. She would train twice a week with local coach Ioan Stan till she was 6 years old. After that, she would practice daily. At the age of 16, she had to move away from her family to Bucharest to receive better training.
