Ronda Rousey hinted at possible retirement from WWE and wrestling thanks to an Instagram post
WWE and MMA legend Ronda Rousey has sent shockwaves around the world by hinting at her retirement.
The ‘Baddest Woman on the Planet’ became a huge name thanks to her Bronze medal win in judo in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Rousey then transitioned to MMA and became a global star. She held many accolades and titles in the UFC before leaving the company and joining WWE full-time in 2017.
While Rousey picked up a lot of titles in WWE, she seems to have called it curtains for her pro wrestling career.
The 36-year-old posted an image on Instagram claiming she was retired. The MMA legend quoted Bernie Lumen from the Disney movie, Elemental.
Rousey was seen holding her daughter, and here is the image from Instagram below.
What is WWE’s position on Ronda Rousey’s retirement?
Ronda Rousey has not wrestled since SummerSlam. Rousey was up against another former MMA star Shayna Baszler. The pair are friends outside of WWE but Rousey lost this special MMA rules match.
Rousey has not been seen in WWE and there have been moments where TV talents have claimed that the former UFC Champion has been driven out of the company.
While Rousey might have spoken about retirement or hinted at it, there has been no confirmation from WWE or any sources.
Ringside News asked sources if WWE had some plans for Rousey, but they did not. However, the source confirmed that Rousey was contracted for a long time with WWE but there is no idea of when this will run out.
Sources also mentioned that all plans regarding Rousey were cancelled after SummerSlam, and the former UFC Champion seems to be enjoying her time with family.
There were rumours of Rousey returning to the UFC, especially with UFC 300 on the horizon. However, those rumours were shot down as well.
Conclusion
Ronda Rousey remains one of the few successful talents in WWE and the UFC.
She was one reason why women’s MMA grew substantially and was possibly the biggest MMA name in the business for a while or until Conor McGregor’s rise.
Rousey paved the way for several athletes and transitioned really well in WWE. She is a UFC Hall of Famer and a Women’s Triple Crown Champion in the WWE.
Rousey did have some detractors during her time in the wrestling business. She didn’t have the greatest of microphone skills and some of her in-ring performances weren’t the best.
However, she seems to be doing fine now and doesn’t really need to compete to pay the bills. Ronda Rousey has done a lot of great things in the octagon and the ring, and if she has retired, she has earned respect from a lot of quarters.
