Waltman started his wrestling career at a very young age when he joined his high school wrestling team. He trained under Karl Gotch, Boris Malenko. He began his career as The Lightning Kid and performed several independent promotions such as Pro Wrestling America, GWF, WWA, and NJPW.

Sean started his career with WWF in 1993 under the name of 1-2-3 Kid, which he got after creating an upset and defeating Razor Ramon on Raw. 

1-2-3 Kid was able to win the WWF Tag Team Championship twice and played one of the best-aired matches that included Bret Hart against him for the WWF World Heavyweight Championship. It was the third-best match ever as ranked by WWE.

Sean was also a part of the Kliq backstage group. Waltman left the WWF in 1996 and joined Kliq members that included Kevin Nash and Scott Hall as Syxx in WCW.

He held the WCW World Tag Team Championship with them as a member of the nWo and got his hand at the WCW Cruiserweight Champion.

Sean went back to WWF in 1998 during its Attitude Era and got rebranded as D-Generation X member X-Pac. He held the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship and WWF European Championship twice each.

Waltman has won almost a dozen of championship titles in between WWE, WCW, and TNA. He is the only wrestler to have held the TNA X Division Championship and the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship.

In 2011, Waltman returned to WWE during the induction of his long-time friend Shawn Michaels into the Hall of Fame. He signed a WWE Legends contract in 2013. Sean was inducted into a Hall of Fame first as a member of D-generation X under the name X-Pac, and again in 2019, he was established second time as a member of nWo along with Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall, and Kevin Nash.

Sean was in a relationship with fellow WWF wrestler Chyna. He has suffered a lot from mental health and depression. He also attempted suicide but was saved by his then-girlfriend Alicia Webb.
