Predicted Liverpool XI to face Manchester United in the Premier League

Liverpool progressed to the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League with a 1-0 win over Napoli at Anfield on Tuesday night and the Reds will once again be the favourites to claim all three points when they play host to Manchester United on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp’s men climbed to the top of the Premier League standings with a 4-0 demolition of Bournemouth last week as Manchester City’s unbeaten run came to an end at Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho’s men lost their final group game in the Champions League 2-1 to Valencia and they will need to pull the rabbit out of the hat if they are to beat the Reds on Sunday.

Team News

Jurgen Klopp has plenty of injuries to contend with for Sunday’s clash. Trent Alexander Arnold suffered an ankle injury in the Champions League and is doubtful to play a part on Sunday while Joe Gomez (ankle) and Joel Matip (shoulder) are also ruled out.

James Milner is struggling with a tight hamstring but he will be expected to feature against United given that Nathaniel Clyne is also sidelined with a minor injury.  Alex Oxlade Chamberlain is a long-term absentee for the Reds.

Predicted XI

1. Alisson Becker (GK)

The Brazilian made a million dollar save against Napoli to send Liverpool through to the knockout stages and has always been a reliable presence between the sticks.

3. Virgil van Dijk (CB)

The towering Dutchman had a solid outing against Napoli and has always been a reliable presence at the heart of the defence.

4. Dejan Lovren (CB)

The Croatian international will fill in the void left by injuries to Matip and Gomez.

The Scotsman put in a solid performance at the back against Napoli and created quite a few chances in the other half with his incisive passing.

6. Georginio Wijnaldum (CDM)

The Dutchman has been one of the pivots of Liverpool’s midfield this season and played really well against Napoli.

7. Fabinho (CDM)

The Brazilian has impressed with his passing and distribution in the last few games and Klopp should hand him a start after resting him for the Champions League game.

8. Xherdan Shaqiri (RW)

He was an unused substitute on Tuesday but he should be amongst the starters for this one.

9. Sadio Mane (LW)

The Senegalese international missed plenty of clear-cut chances against Napoli and Liverpool will need him to be more clinical with his finishing.
