Three players Southampton should sign in the January window

Southampton are struggling to find goals and stop their opponents from scoring, which means that the January transfer window will be a big one for the Saints. However, given their current condition, there are few players in the world who can help Ralph Hasenhuttl and his team climb out of their current state.

But while they do have the likes of Nathan Redmond, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Danny Ings and a few others to help improve their position, they will need reinforcements. That being said, there are a few players in the world who can do that for Hasenhuttl.

#3 Marc Stendera

A brilliant midfielder, the German has the ability to play as either a central midfielder or an attacking midfielder, who has a brilliant eye for a goal or a pass. Not to mention, his dead-ball abilities are second to no one in the Bundesliga. But while he may be an ideal Hassenhutl target, the question does arise, can Stendera make it in the tough and physical Premier League?

While it will most certainly take some time, the German can most definitely make it in the Premier League. At just 23, he certainly has time on his side. That combined with Southampton’s ability to raise brilliant young players and nurture their talents further improves his chances.

#2 Mohamed Elneny

The Saints have a leaky back-line ever since they lost Virgil Van Dijk to Liverpool. The burly Dutchman may have filled holes in the Reds’ defensive line but he’s left a massive one at Southampton. The club could only bring in Jannick Vestergaard over the summer to replace Van Dijk.

While that experiment hasn’t exactly failed, bringing in Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny could be a potential solution. The Egyptian can play as either a central midfielder, a defensive midfielder or even a centre-back and that versatility makes him a valuable target. Not to mention that Arsenal are looking to offload a few stars over the January window, which means that there is a chance they could get the 26-year-old at a lower rate.

#1 Adam Lallana

The Saints need creativity and who better to provide it than a former youth academy star and one of the brightest prospects the club has ever had. Adam Lallana was once a key star in Southampton’s line-up before his eventual move to Liverpool. But since then, the midfielder has failed to impress.

While he started his tenure at Anfield well, injuries and form issues have played a major toll on his match fitness which kept him on the bench most of the time. Last season was effectively his final chance at a reprieve but yet another injury kept him out. Maybe what the 30-year-old needs is a return to his old stomping grounds to re-ignite his career and maybe Southampton’s chances of staying in the Premier League.
