Celtic are on the verge of completing another historic domestic treble. After winning a treble in an invincible campaign in 2016/17 Brendan Rodgers’ men find themselves poised to complete a trifecta of trophies once again.

Having already won the League Cup, the Hoops are just a win away from lifting the Scottish Premiership title and have made it to the finals of the Scottish Cup where they will be favourites against Motherwell. The work that Rodgers has done since taking over at the club has been amazing. Yet their progression in Europe is something that he and the club will be keen on concentrating on, over the coming seasons.

With the ongoing season almost wrapped up, the club will be planning ahead for the next campaign and the summer transfer window will be crucial if they are to continue their dominance at the domestic level and improve their fortunes in Europe. And here are two players who, if signed, could help Celtic do just that:

Abel Hernandez (Hull City)

The Hoops have been linked with a move for the Uruguayan forward recently, and with his contract with Hull City set to expire at the end of the season, it makes perfect sense.

Hernandez spent a large chunk of the season out on the sidelines nursing a serious injury but has been in terrific form since returning to full fitness. So far, the 27-year old has netted eight goals in just 10 appearances in the English second division and has picked up 2 assists as well. With 11 goals in 29 appearances for the Uruguayan national team, he has also proven his credentials at the international stages as well.

With Moussa Dembele’s future still a concern and Leigh Griffiths not enjoying the best of campaigns, coupled with Odsonne Edouard’s loan deal coming to an end, a new striker would be a great addition for Celtic. And someone of Hernandez’s quality and pedigree, on a free, will be a major coup.

Miguel Britos (Watford)

Another Uruguayan who will be available on a Bosman transfer at the end of the season.

The 32-year old hasn’t featured heavily for the Hornets this season, having missed out three months of action due to a foot injury. Britos has made just 12 appearances in the 2017/18 Premier League campaign, scoring a goal in the process. He may have endured a difficult season due to injuries but is a defender with volumes of experience at the top level.

The Uruguayan had made close to 100 appearances for Serie A side Napoli before moving to England and has been a constant fixture in the Watford backline during their Premier League stint. Celtic’s backline has been suspect this season with the likes of Jozo Simunovic and Dedryck Boyata underperforming and signing a seasoned campaigner like Britos could prove to be beneficial.
