Liverpool should sign Emil Forsberg in January
According to an earlier report from the Express during the World Cup in Russia, Liverpool were interested in signing RB Leipzig’s Swedish international Emil Forsberg.
The 27-year-old has established himself as one of the best wide playmakers in the Bundesliga, registering 2 goals and 2 assists in the German top division last season.
He has hit the ground running this term as well, scoring a goal and setting up another two in the process. Forsberg has been one of the key figures in Leipzig’s final third for the last three seasons.
Well, those statistics might not be that appealing but he certainly has all the attributes to take the next big step to the Premier League.
A fast, agile and nimble-footed winger who likes to operate down the right flank, Forsberg is equally capable of playing as a No.10 through the centre. The 27-year-old has a wonderful technique and combines his silky dribbling skills with his excellent close control to create that extra space for himself along the wide areas.
Forsberg is certainly not as pacy as Raheem Sterling but he makes up for it with his technical abilities and remarkable vision. He is comfortable in possession and shows an excellent presence of mind to link-up with his teammates.
The Swedish international is subtle with his movement in the final third and likes to work the channels by getting into good positions. He also has that ability to draw the defenders out from their position, allowing his teammates to get into scoring positions.
Forsberg was one of the cornerstones of Sweden’s march to the quarterfinals of the World Cup and he certainly has all the qualities to fit into Liverpool’s first-team.
Not only would he be a good fit on either side of the front three but Klopp can also use him in a wide position in the midfield of his 4-3-3 formation. His style of play is somewhat comparable to Adam Lallana. However, the Englishman has been forced to spend a lot of time on the sidelines due to recurrent injuries and he no longer has that sharpness in his game to have a regular impact.
Liverpool have made a tremendous start to their Premier League campaign and the Reds sit 3rd in the standings, just below Chelsea on goal difference. They are yet to be beaten in the Premier League and as things stand, Jurgen Klopp’s men are strong contenders for the Premier League crown.
However, the Reds have struggled to find the net in the games against the top teams. Daniel Sturridge’s last-minute equaliser saved the day against Chelsea while Riyad Mahrez’s bizarre penalty kick ensured that the Reds rescued a point against Manchester City. The 1-1 draw against Arsenal further documented the need for a creative attacking midfielder.
To be honest, neither Naby Keita nor Jordan Henderson has the ability to spark creativity in the final third. Xherdan Shaqiri has done exceedingly well this season but Liverpool need another versatile creative midfielder to boost their chances of challenging Manchester City for the title.

That said, Liverpool should reignite their interest in Emil Forsberg and table a handsome bid to land the Swedish international in January. He might be the missing link in Liverpool’s attack and buying him in the mid-season trading period would certainly propel Liverpool to greater heights.
