Wolves should not hesitate to sign Adam Reach in January

According to The Sun, Wolverhampton Wanderers are eyeing a January swoop for Sheffield Wednesday ace Adam Reach.

The 25-year-old former England U20 international has caught the eye with some brilliant long-range strikes this season. He has taken the Championship by storm with his versatile displays down the left flank, accumulating 4 goals and 2 assists from 12 appearances so far.

A product of Middlesbrough’s youth system, Reach was never able to establish himself as a regular starter for his boyhood club and spent time on loan at Shrewsbury Town, Darlington, Bradford City and Preston North End before signing for Sheffield Wednesday in 2016.

He has taken his career to new heights with Sheffield Wednesday, putting up consistent displays for the past two seasons. The 25-year-old registered 4 goals and 11 assists last term for the Owls and has continued his impressive form in the ongoing season as well.

Wolves secured promotion to the top flight after an emphatic season in the Championship last year. However, few would have expected them to excel the way they have done so far this season. They haven’t been overhauled by the reputation of some of the top teams in the Premier League and have shown plenty of character and resilience to fight for a top ten finish.

So much so, Nuno Espirito Santo won the award for the Premier League Manager of the Month for September. They had the chance of stretching their unbeaten run to seven games in a row but succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Watford this weekend.

Consistency has been the key to Wolves’ success this season and all the players have played their part perfectly so far. Credit should go to the manager as well, who has been very consistent with his team selection.

Wolves play a 3-4-3 formation with two wing-backs in Matt Doherty and Jonathan Castro Otto. Both the wing-backs have been instrumental in the team’s success, contributing equally to attack as well as defense.

Although they have a pretty formidable first team line-up, Wolves do not have too much depth in their squad to rack up wins consistently as the season progresses. Although they have versatile players like the 19-year-old Portuguese U19 international Ruben Vinagre and Leander Dendoncker who are capable of playing in multiple positions, they need more players to change things up.

And Championship star Adam Reach is definitely someone who can add a lot of value to the team. The 25-year-old has proven his worth with goals and assists operating from the left-hand side of the midfield.

Even though he is primarily a left-sided midfielder who can play as a left-back or a left-wing back, the versatile left-footed player has excelled in his new role as a central attacking midfielder for his current club.

In Otto and Doherty, Wolves have two of the most balanced players in the Premier League and they can certainly add another feather to their cap with the signing of Adam Reach.

Reach has a good technique, likes to dribble and cut inside from the flanks when deployed in an attacking role. In fact, he averaged 1.6 key passes,1.8 shots and 1.3 dribbles per game last term in the Championship. He also tracks back to help out the defenders and is never afraid to stick his foot out when needed. The 25-year-old averaged 1.6 tackles, 1.4 interceptions and 1.8 clearances per game last season.
