Silva would pull off a masterstroke by making Everton get rid of this £27m flop and this 21-year-old academy ace in the winter

Everton should offload Cenk Tosun and Kieran Dowell in January

There was an air of expectancy around Goodison Park when Marco Silva took over as the new manager and those expectations would have rocketed sky-high when the Toffees made a number of marquee signings in the summer.

Well, Everton haven’t been outrightly poor this season but the fans haven’t seen anything spectacular from them either. The Toffees sit 8th in the Premier League standings with 6 wins from 17 games, which is roughly where they would have expected to be at this point of the season. However, the inability to turn draws into wins has been one of the major causes of concern for Marco Silva this season.

Everton have drawn 6 games and five of those have come against Wolves, Bournemouth, Newcastle, Watford and Huddersfield. With the quality of players that the Merseysiders have in their ranks, they would have been expected to claim all three points from these fixtures.

The Toffees need to bolster their attack with some fresh faces in January and here are 2 players that they should offload to make way for new recruits:-

1. Cenk Tosun

Everton splashed £27million to acquire the services of the Turkish goal machine from Besiktas last season in January but he hasn’t quite turned out to be the ideal spearhead of the attack for Marco Silva’s style of play.

He scored 5 goals for Everton in the second half of last season but the 27-year-old has only netted twice in his 13 appearances in the Premier League this term. His failure to deliver the goals has forced Marco Silva to use Richarlison as the spearhead of the attack.

Richarlison has netted on 8 occasions in the Premier League but he is a much more impactful player when deployed on the left. In all honesty, Everton need a new striker who can acclimatise to Silva’s free-flowing football and the Toffees should not hesitate to sacrifice Tosun to fund a move.

2. Kieran Dowell

The highly-rated academy product spent time on loan at Nottingham Forest last season where he accumulated 9 goals and 4 assists. The club hierarchy decided against loaning him out once again this term but the 21-year-old hasn’t had much involvement in the Premier League either.

A left-footed central creative playmaker, Dowell is known for his ability to light up the scene with his sharpness, agility and vision. He is also capable of finding the net with curling efforts from set-pieces from the edge of the box.

Dowell is a wonderful talent and Everton should loan him out in January to allow him to continue his development in the right direction.
