The makers have kept fans waiting, yet have announced that the show will return with an OVA episode.
SK8 The Infinity was one of the most watched anime series of 2021, becoming a smash hit among viewers worldwide. It follows Reki, an eager high school student obsessed with skateboarding to an unhealthy degree. Following an accident where both his board and arm are broken, Reki meets Langa – who dreams of competing in underground skateboarding competitions known as S races – whom both share an interest. They eventually form an unlikely duo united by their passion for skating; together they train for forthcoming competitions together.
SK8 The Infinity, unlike many popular anime series, was an original animated project which did not adapt from any light novel or manga previously released. Directed by Hiroko Utsumi (Banana Fish, Free! Iwatobi Swim Club and Eternal Summer), with animation work handled by BONES. Kyle Phillips and Christopher Wehkamp serve as dubbing directors, with Alyssa Dumas serving as ADR engineer and Neal Malley serving as ADR mixer respectively.
Though SK8 The Infinity was immensely popular, its production team took its time in confirming a second season. This is probably because anime production committees tend to avoid risk and will only renew shows if they have a high probability of success. Luckily, Bones Studio would continue animating it and the renewal was announced shortly thereafter.

Bones is known for producing multi-season anime series such as My Hero Academia and Mob Psycho 100; original anime typically only gets one season without being based off existing manga/light novels; however if SK8 the Infinity performs well in ratings and Bluray sales then there may be another season!
After the success of SK8 the Infinity Season 1, it is likely we will witness another season. The anime is known for its exciting plotlines and action sequences that draw in skating fans; Langa won his tournament and gave Adams some lessons during Season 1, leaving Adams out with no choice but to follow him into Japan where the S Downhill Skateboarding Competition awaits him. The next season may follow them as they prepare to enter it!
Hiroko Utsumi will return as director for season 2, having directed both seasons of SK8 the infinity anime. She is an established veteran of Kyoto Animation as well as Studio MAPPA projects such as Banana Fish and Great Pretender. Ichirou Ookouchi who wrote for Berserk: The Golden Age, Yuri on Ice, Devilman Crybaby Guilty Crown Princess Principal will serve as screenwriter while Michinori Chiba will oversee character design/chief animation duties while composer Ryo Takahashi will create music throughout.
SK8 the Infinity’s initial season ran for 12 episodes and was warmly received by anime fans worldwide. Since then, its producers have renewed it for another 12 episode season as well as an OVA release scheduled for 2022.

No Border Animation Studio recently announced they would collaborate on a new SK8 project with Studio Bones, which will serve as the sequel to SK8 The Infinity. Though a teaser video has already been released by No Border and Studio Bones, no information regarding which characters will return is yet known.
