The Slovenia Open is entering its business end as Jasmine Paolini takes on Katerina Siniakova in the quarterfinals.
The defending champion is certainly one of the favorites to go the distance. She bowed out of the US Open in the first round following a defeat to eventual champion Iga Swiatek. However, Paolini has got into the groove at the Slovenia Open with a couple of decent wins.
She started her campaign with a comprehensive 7-5, 6-1 victory against Croatia’s Tara Wurth. In the second round, the Italian tennis pro survived a scare against World No. 72 Kaja Juvan to eventually win the match 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5). Paolini’s comeback after dropping the first set should give her a lot of confidence going forward.
The 26-year-old Katerina Siniakova is a phenomenal doubles player. She is currently ranked No. 1 in doubles and won three out of the four major titles this year.
She will be looking forward to upping the ante in the singles circuit. The results so far in Slovenia should give her a lot of confidence. After easing past Martina Trevisan in the first round 6-1, 6-4, she defeated Jodie Anna Burrage 7-5, 6-1 in the round of 16. She has a big test coming her way as the defending champion will surely pose a strong challenge.
The head-to-head stands at 0-0 as of now as this will be the first meeting between Katerina Siniakova and Jasmine Paolini.
Prediction: Katerina Siniakova to win in three sets.
