Why George Saville must snub Aston Villa and join Leeds United instead
According to Mail Online, Leeds United and Aston Villa are among a host of Championship clubs that have been eyeing Millwall midfielder, George Saville. The 25-year-old, who came through Chelsea’s youth ranks, has gained impressive form since joining the London-based club from Wolverhampton Wanderers last year.
Saville was a victim of Wolves’ success last summer. The arrival of Ruben Neves, orchestrated by super agent Jorge Mendes and his Fosun International agency, may have pushed the club back to the Premier League. However, the big money arrivals also pushed Saville towards the exit doors.
Saville, who was quite average at Molineux, quickly established himself as one of the Championship’s most underrated gems. Under Neil Harris at the Den, Saville scored 10 goals and supplied two assists in 44 appearances. He doubled his previous career best of five Championship goals for Wolves. He was the club’s joint top-scorer with Lee Gregory, as Millwall finished 8th, narrowly missing out on promotion playoffs.
A move to Leeds United over Aston Villa, however, could be the most ideal for Saville. Known for his energy, the box-to-box midfielder can also play as a No. 10 or as a defensive midfielder. On rare occasions, he can also be utilized as a left-back.
With that in mind, it goes without saying that the 25-year-old would comfortably slot into Marcelo Bielsa’s side. He is strong in the air, hard on the tackle, excellent while crossing and never shies away from defensive contributions. In addition, he also has bundles of energy to burn.
The Northern Ireland international ticks every box to be considered a good fit for Bielsa’s system. Considering his threat from direct free-kicks, Saville could also chip in with goals, ghosting into the box behind the strikers.

If Victor Orta succeeds at luring him away from Millwall, Saville could play an important role in Leeds’ promotion bid this season. The meticulous Bielsa has a keen eye for minor details both on and off the pitch. Working under him would only help the 25-year-old further establish himself as a player.
With his peak years approaching, a move to Elland Road would help the midfielder improve his pass success rate – which is a key weakness of his game. Nevertheless, joining the Whites could help Saville reach new heights.
