American tennis player Sofia Kenin spoke about her expectations in the ongoing season after her recent Australian Open triumph.
The 21-year old Kenin overcame Spain’s Garbine Muguruza a few weeks back to claim her maiden Grand Slam title. That made her one of the favourites for the ongoing Dubai Duty Free Championships.
The young American was talking on the sidelines to the anchors of the tournament’s channel, who asked her to share her expectations for the upcoming season.
Kenin opened up about her dreams and expectations for the ongoing season after a great start:
“Just the expectations, I think I am getting a lot of attention and a lot of people contacting me, wanting to get in touch with me. It’s a little hectic, a little bit of a zoo, but I have to somehow manage it and just handle it well,” Kenin said.
Meanwhile, Kenin also added that her top priority at the moment was to excel in every upcoming tournament and give her best shot.
The World No.7 was replying to a question on what her thoughts were about the upcoming Majors:
“First, I want to do well in every tournament. Right now, we are into byes, next Major is in sometime in May but I am going to first try and do my best,”
She also opened up on her Grand Slam chances with a tinge of optimism, saying that she hoped she could win more.
“Yeah obviously, I won a Grand Slam, maybe go in a little deep and win a few more. We will see,”
Meanwhile, Kenin suffered a shocking first-round defeat at the hands of lower-ranked opponent Elena Rybakina to crash out of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship.
Sixth seed Kenin lost the match 7-6, 6-3, 6-3 against Rybakina, who is currently ranked 19th.
