The fourth seed – Lorenzo Musetti takes on the world No. 95 Marc-Andrea Huesler in the semi-finals of the 2022 Sofia Open on Saturday.
Lorenzo Musetti
The Italian tennis pro has struggled for consistency but has churned out some impressive results now and then in 2022 so far.
Musetti opened his campaign in the 2022 Sofia Open with an intriguing match in the round of 16 against the 24-year-old Alexandar Lazarov. The Bulgarian won the first set to set the cat among the pigeons and came close to ending the match in the second set. However, Musetti dug deep and came out with a hard-fought win. The match ended 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (10-8), and 6-2 in favor of Musetti. In the quarter-finals, Musetti had to fight hard to take the first set against German veteran Jan-Lennard Struff before easily finishing the match in the second set to win the match 7-6 (7-3), 6-1.
Marc-Andrea Huesler
The 26-year-old has reached his second tour-level semifinal this year after finding himself in the same stage at the Winston-Salem Open in August.
The Swiss tennis pro started his run at the Sofia Open with a win against French qualifier Geoffrey Blancaneaux in the round of 32. Huesler won the closely contested match 6-4, 6-4. In the round of 16, Huesler produced a better performance against the experienced Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta to win the match 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. Huesler survived a major scare in the quarter-finals against Kamil Majchrzak to win 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (8-6), 6-3. The world No. 95 sent in 26 aces during the match and would be hopeful of using his serves to good effect in the semi-finals as well.
Head-to-Head and Prediction
The head-to-head stands at 0-0 as this will be the first meeting between Lorenzo Musetti and Marc-Andrea Huesler.
Prediction: Lorenzo Musetti to win in three sets.
