In Sonic Frontiers, players take on the role of Sonic, exploring a series of biomes such as flowery fields, forests, ancient ruins, and deserts on the Starfall Islands, a 3D platformer and action-adventure game. In the movie, Sonic, Miles “Tails” Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, and Amy Rose are sucked into wormholes and are left behind on an island, separated from Tails, Amy, and Knuckles.
The player is guided by artificial intelligence as they look for Sonic’s companions and the Chaos Emeralds. The game is available on different platforms and we are going to do the Sonic Frontiers comparison on the graphics and gameplay that will help you to understand how the game works on different platforms.
Sonic Frontiers comparison
While the PS5 version runs at 1080p at 60 frames per second or 4K at 30 frames per second, the Switch version runs at 720p at 30 frames per second, whether docked or undocked. Switch visuals seem significantly less crisp than its counterpart with regards to the various environmental textures. Many comments, however, state that the Switch version can keep up with the PS5 in a matter of days.
Sonic Frontiers has stated that the high-end version of visual assets will be available for PC, but the Switch version looks similar to the PS5 and Xbox Series X thanks to Sonic Frontiers’ Hedgehog Engine. However, the comparative visual downgrade is not something that is new for Sonic the Hedgehog port games.
In 2021, Sonic Colors: Ultimate on Switch experienced the same issues with visual fidelity, locked at 720p at 30 frames per second. In spite of Sonic Frontiers’ similarities to its predecessors, it’s a completely new game after all the Switch simply isn’t as powerful as the PS5 or Xbox Series X, so the game will always appear fuzzy.
