While the PS5 version runs at 1080p at 60 frames per second or 4K at 30 frames per second, the Switch version runs at 720p at 30 frames per second, whether docked or undocked. Switch visuals seem significantly less crisp than its counterpart with regards to the various environmental textures. Many comments, however, state that the Switch version can keep up with the PS5 in a matter of days.
Sonic Frontiers has stated that the high-end version of visual assets will be available for PC, but the Switch version looks similar to the PS5 and Xbox Series X thanks to Sonic Frontiers’ Hedgehog Engine. However, the comparative visual downgrade is not something that is new for Sonic the Hedgehog port games.
In 2021, Sonic Colors: Ultimate on Switch experienced the same issues with visual fidelity, locked at 720p at 30 frames per second. In spite of Sonic Frontiers’ similarities to its predecessors, it’s a completely new game after all the Switch simply isn’t as powerful as the PS5 or Xbox Series X, so the game will always appear fuzzy.
