Liverpool must steer clear of Ousmane Dembele right now
According to a report by Daily Mail, Barcelona are open to the prospect of offloading Ousmane Dembele. The report also states that Liverpool are quite interested in the winger’s signature.
The Catalan giants signed him for a staggering £96million but it remains to be seen if they will command the same amount while selling him. Despite being one of Borussia Dortmund’s prized assets, Dembele has failed to make a similar impact at Camp Nou. But is moving to Liverpool the right option for him?
Jurgen Klopp has successfully established a solid squad at Anfield. He has some quality players and adequate bench strength across various departments on the field.
As far as his front unit is concerned, it goes without saying that it is one of the best. The likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Xherdan Shaqiri have all excelled and they seem to be showing no signs of slowing down.
And in such a situation, it would be tough for Dembele to break into the first-team. With pacy and consistent wingers like Salah and Mane in the squad, the young Frenchman would have to watch most of the action from the sidelines.
That would not be any different from what he is facing at Barcelona right now. Furthermore, there is no way that the La Liga outfit will let him leave on the cheap and it does not make sense for Liverpool to spend so much on a player who might not be a first-team regular.
Unless Klopp is hit with a significant injury blow, it would be futile to add to the attacking department at such a high cost – even more so for a player who has failed to impress for quite a while now.
Since they are yet to find a solid replacement for Philippe Coutinho, they could target a solid No. 10 once the January window commences and Dembele does not fit that role.
Thus, it would be in Liverpool’s best interests to steer clear of Dembele. And to be fair, the Frenchman is also unlikely to receive many chances to revive his career at Anfield.
