World No.6 Tsitsipas has been coached by his father Apostolos Tsitsipas for quite some time now
Stefanos Tsitsipas opened up on his relationship with his dad during a press conference held during the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship.
The Greek tennis star was speaking to the media when he decided to answer to a reporter’s query on his relationship with his father, who is also his coach.
Touted as a next-generation star, World No.6 Tsitsipas, has been coached by his father Apostolos Tsitsipas for quite some time now.
“Yeah, I feel like I screwed it like recently, it wasn’t like a thing before, no? Wasn’t it? Yeah, I mean I know he’s that as a coach,” Tsitsipas said.
The Greek star was reflecting on the infamous incident that involved him and his father during the ATP Cup tournament earlier this year.
Tsitsipas, who had a tough day against Australia’s Nick Kyrgios failed to keep his emotions under check, resulting in a lot of unfortunate on-court incidents.
Tsitsipas made the headlines that day for the wrong reasons when he was seen hitting his father accidentally with his racquet during the match.
“I’ve never really spoken to him about their relationship”
Meanwhile, Tsitsipas said that there weren’t many father-son coach-player duo’s in the circuit, especially in the ATP circuit.
“There aren’t many players that had their parents as the coaches. More on the female tour, on the WTA Tour, not so much in the ATP Tour.”
Tsitsipas also said that he knew Alexander Zverev’s coach was his father, however, he admitted that he did not know anything about their relationship.
“I know Sasha has his dad as the coach. I’ve never really spoken to him about their relationship. I don’t know, who else has a father tennis coach?
He concluded by saying he felt his on-court rival Casper Ruud of Norway seemed to have a good relationship with his father-coach Christian Ruud as it has been very low-key. However, he also admitted that he did not know much as he has never spoken to him.
