Stellar Blade combat gameplay has been revealed and its looks absolutely bombastic. The developers know what they are doing, and this guide will explain the different forms of combat.
While this game looks like any other game under the Hack and Slash genre, there are a few unique tricks to make sure Stellar Blade stands apart. A company as big as Sony would make sure that players have different experiences with different franchises.
The basic attack in Stellar Blade combat looks clean and concise. It looks like a perfect blend of other action games such as Bayonetta. Most games follow this combat system where a button is assigned for quick attacks and another button is assigned for heavy attacks. Famous titles such as God of War and Ninja Gaiden follow the same method. Players can combine quick and strong attacks for great combos.
This name might be confusing to others but for fans of hack and slash games, the other name for this attack is the charged attack. By holding a button, the player character can unleash a charged attack that will be devastating to the enemy. Follow up attacks can be triggered too unleashing great damage.
Very straightforward mode of attacking as ranged weapons are used (lets just say guns). Guns help target far away foes and help to keep enemies at a distance. Many games primarily use this mode of combat to keep distance and execute a large group of enemies. The gameplay trailer uses machine guns and rocket launchers, who knows what else is in store.
Bayonetta anyone? Many hack and slash games follow a perfect dodge mechanic that rewards the player with a bonus while in combat. It seems like Stellar Blade combat took a lot of inspiration from the aforementioned series where perfect dodges reward the player with slowing down time and dishing out immense damage. This move is very rewarding and gives the players bursts of adrenaline.
A great combat system consists of 3 parts, the action prompt, the animation and the impact point. Games such as Heavenly Sword, Devil May Cry and God of War are epitomes of the hack and slash combat system. Stellar Blade looks amazing and as it is published by Sony, it looks on the right track to be an excellent title. The gameplay looks like a blend of fast paced methodical combat. Hopefully, this game delivers.
