Stellaris‘ gameplay revolves around space exploration, managing an empire, diplomacy, and space warfare with other space-faring civilizations. It was released worldwide for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and Series S. Stellaris is a real-time grand strategy game set in an alternate reality of space, in the distant future. Players play as a government of a species in the early stages of interstellar space exploration, right after the invention of faster-than-light (FTL) space travel technology, ready to claim a place as one of “the species of the stars.”

Depending on several factors, such as the ethics of the civilization and the player’s desires, the ultimate goal of the empire can range from galactic conquest, hoarding of resources, and technological supremacy, to peaceful coexistence with or absolute destruction of all other sapient life. The player controls ships, including science, construction and military vessels. Combat includes space combat and ground combat and is more centered towards the bigger picture, preparation, and strategy. Common Ground (Requires Federation DLC)

The origin of Common Ground is a bit of a mixed bag. On the one hand, you and two other empires are in constant communication. As President of a Galactic Union Federation, you have the opportunity to build a formidable alliance with these two empires. 

On the other side, you’ll need to communicate with these two empires during the game, and things could fall apart, resulting in the agreement being broken. If you want to get more into negotiations and possibly use it to pick on the adjacent, little, budding empires, it’s a good place to start.

Shattered Ring (Requires Federation DLC)

The Shattered Ring start is one of the best for many empires for many people. The Ring World segment gives the player a startup planet with a large ring enclosing their homeworld. Ring World will be divided into many sections depending on the player’s empire. The Ring Segment, for example, will have a Generator Segment attached to it if the empire is a Machine Intelligence. 

The Arcane Generator is the starting point for the Ring World. There are parts of the Ring World that players can fix and parts that they can’t, although the damaged pieces can be stripped mined for early materials.

Gameplay

Mechanist (Requires Utopic DLC)

The Mechanic origins provide your homeworld a Robot Assembly Plants building, and you have eight robots in your population, for those who wish to have an army of robots at their command to work alongside your starting population. 

You also have the technology for Powered Exoskeletons and Robotic Workers already discovered before you begin the game. It’s a faster start to ensuring your empire has robots working alongside them, and it saves money on manpower. It also allows you to expand your species because you can always develop robots to fulfill a variety of functions.

Prosperous Unification (Base Stellaris Game)

You can start with Prosperous Unification if you want your entire populace to work together and under one banner. It’s a good approach to ensure that your people and leaders share a common purpose, and you can utilise it to ensure that everyone is on the same page before the game begins. 

This origin grants your empire immediate access to the Planetary Unification, which you can study. Along with the Prosperous Unification modification, it also grants your homeworld four more people and two more districts. This isn’t a major bonus, but if you want a more traditional start to your Stellaris game, this is a good option with few ups and downs.

Void Dwellers (Requires Federation DLC)

The Void Dwellers are a fascinating origin to give your empire if you wish to have your species bloom and grow in artificial areas and want to invest in habitats. Rather than focusing on conquering and colonizing other worlds, you can focus on creating habitats that give artificial life for your race. 

The location of the habitat provides it with a distinct advantage. If you create one overlooking a world with an energy resource, for example, that habitat will have access to a generator that they can utilize to gather more energy. Unless you establish a habitat overlooking a mineral-based world, it will not have access to minerals.

Remnants (Requires Ancient Relics DLC)

The Remnants origin grants access to a size 22 Relic World for those who wish to start investigating straight away and learn about what happened to your empire’s ancestors. There will be five Ruined Arcology obstacles to clear, each of which will grant you random technology, thus it’s a fantastic method to improve your research tech tree. 

The disadvantage of this origin is that these technologies are random, so there’s no way of knowing whether they’ll directly aid your empire or offer you access to something you won’t be able to utilize for decades.

Sion (Requires Federation DLC)

Under the Fanatic Material or Spiritualist start, however, your empire will make touch with a fallen empire. You and that fallen empire have a perfect relationship, and every few decades, that fallen empire bestows a significant gift upon your empire. 

If you’ve been fighting a superior empire for 20 years and are losing, your fallen empire friend will give you a temporary fleet to fight back. It’s a pleasant way to start the game, but the rewards are contingent on how you employ the gifts provided by that destroyed nation.
