Stephen Jesse Jackson was the 1997 Round 2, 42nd overall draft pick by the Phoenix Suns. He used to play in the position of shooting guard / small forward and had played some memorable games while he was with the San Antonio Spurs.
He was a good high school basketball player and used to study in Lincoln High School. He led his school to a state championship in his junior year. Later, he transferred to Oak Hill Academy, earning the McDonald’s All-American honors. He was the leading scorer in the 1996 McDonald’s All-American Boys Game.

Jackson attended Butler Community College of El Dorado, Kansas. He studied there for one semester but did not play basketball there. He used to work in his grandfather’s soul food restaurant in Port Arthur, where he would wash dishes and serve tables.
He was drafted by the Phoenix Suns in 1997 but was soon waived by the team. After playing for three years in various other countries and leagues, the New Jersey Nets finally signed Jackson in 2000.
2000-2001 season was Jackson’s rookie year, and he appeared in 77 games. He averaged 8.2 points per game in his rookie season.
The San Antonio Spurs then signed him for the 2001 season. He became a key member of the Spurs and won the NBA Championship in 2003, defeating the New Jersey Nets in the NBA Finals.
In 2003, Jackson became a free agent during the offseason and signed with the Atlanta Hawks on a two-year contract. While playing for the Hawks, Jackson scored a career-best 42 points.
He was then traded to the Indiana Pacers in 2004. Here, he was involved in the famous controversial event, ‘Malice in the Palace’. In 2007, Jackson was traded to the Golden State Warriors. With the Warriors, he made a playoff run but eventually lost to the Utah Jazz in the Conference Semi-finals.
After Warriors, he went on to play with the Charlotte Bobcats and Milwaukee Bucks. In 2012, he returned back to San Antonio Spurs. He again made a playoff run with the Spurs but lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2012 West Conference Finals.
In 2013, he signed with the Los Angeles Clippers. However, in 2014, he was waived by the Clippers. Finally on July 22, 2015, Jackson announced his retirement.
