The world No. 14 Cameron Norrie locks horns with world No. 27, Holger Rune, in the quarter-finals of the Stockholm Open on Friday.
The British No. 1 has reached his 12th quarter-final this year. He has already won the Delray Beach Open and the Lyon Open and is looking to bag his third title in 2022. This is Norrie’s first tournament since encountering COVID-19 prior to his quarter-final clash against Karen Khachanov in the Korea Open.
After receiving a first-round bye, Norrie met Aslan Karatsev in the round of 16 on Wednesday. The Russian tennis pro gave Norrie a good run for his money. Karatsev bagged a closely-contested first set but Norrie came back strongly to eventually win the match 6-7 (8-10), 6-3, 6-4.
The 19-year-old has managed to reach his third consecutive quarterfinal. The 2022 BMW Open champion has been in fine form as of late. He came into the tournament on the back of a run to the finals of the Sofia Open. He was eventually ousted by Marc-Andrea Huesler in the final.
The Danish youngster made his Stockholm debut against Thiago Monteiro in the first round. Rune had to fight hard to win the first set and in the second set, he came to his own and dominated proceedings. He eventually won the match 7-5, 6-2. In the round of 16, Rune took on Cristian Garin. Like the first-round match against Monteiro, Rune had to dig deep to win the first set but the second set was a one-sided affair. The match ended 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 in favor of Rune.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 3-0 in favor of Cameron Norrie.
Prediction: Cameron Norrie to win in three sets.
