The Finnish No. 1 Emil Ruusuvuori locks horns with the Portuguese veteran Joao Sousa in the round of 32 of the Stockholm Open on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old got off to a fine start this season as he reached the semi-finals in Melbourne. He went down to the legendary Rafael Nadal in straight sets. At the Maharashtra Open, Ruusuvuori went down in the final against none other than Joao Sousa. At the BMW Open and the Queen’s Club Championships, the promising youngster made it to the quarter-finals.

In Astana, Ruusuvuori made light work of Marc-Andrea Huesler in the first round before losing to former world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev in straight sets in the round of 16.

2022 will be a memorable year for Joao Sousa and his fans because the 33-year-old managed to end his four-year title drought by winning the Maharashtra Open. He also progressed to the finals of the Geneva Open, where he lost to Casper Ruud in a riveting encounter. Other than these two performances, the world No. 67 has been quite underwhelming.

Prior to the Stockholm Open, Sousa to part in the Gijon Open. However, he crashed out in the first round itself owing to a loss against 2020 US Open champion Dominic Thiem in a one-sided affair.
