The promising Holger Rune begins his Stockholm Open campaign against Brazil’s Thiago Monteiro in the round of 32 on Monday.
The 19-year-old bagged his first ATP tour-level title when he won the BMW Open. He also made it to the semi-finals of the Lyon Open. Rune grabbed eyeballs as he reached the quarter-finals for the first time at a Grand Slam event at the 2022 French Open. Following the clay-court major, Rune went on a six-match losing streak before getting a win in the first round of the Citi Open against Benoit Paire.
The world No. 27 took part in the Sofia Open earlier this month and made it to the final. He was bettered by Marc-Andrea Huesler in straight sets in the final.
The world No. 61 has reached the quarter-finals in Adelaide, the Chile Open, and the Serbia Open. He also won a Challenger title in Salzburg and another one in Genoa.
The 28-year-old is coming into the tournament after crashing out of the Gijon Open in the round of 16 last week, following a loss to Pablo Carreno Busta in straight sets. Monteiro will have to use his experience to good effect to get one over the youngster from Denmark.
