The world No. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas locks horns with the talented Mikael Ymer in the quarter-finals of the Stockholm Open on Friday.
The Greek tennis pro is one of the best young players in the game at the moment. He has had a stellar season so far. He won the title in the Monte-Carlo Masters and the Mallorca Open. The 24-year-old also reached four finals where he ended up as the second-best.
Prior to the Stockholm Open, Tsitsipas reached the finals in Astana. However, he fell short against the 21-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic. Tsitsipas began his campaign in Stockholm in the round of 16 against Maxime Cressy. The American youngster produced a dogged display and Tsitsipas had to dig deep in both sets to come out victorious. The match ended 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (14-12) in favor of Tsitsipas.
The 24-year-old has made it to his seventh quarterfinal in what has been a turbulent season thus far. He came into the tournament on the back of an impressive Firenze Open campaign where he reached the semi-finals. Ymer was eventually ousted by Jeffrey John Wolf.
The Swedish youngster began his Stockholm Open campaign against Quentin Halys. The Frenchman won the first set but couldn’t capitalize. A strong comeback from Ymer facilitated his 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 win to progress to the second round. Tommy Paul met Ymer in the round of 16. The American tennis pro went into the match as the favorite but Ymer proved to be too hot to handle as the latter won convincingly in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 4-0 in favor of Stefanos Tsitsipas. Their most recent meeting was at the 2022 French Open where the Greek sensation won the match 6-2, 6-2, 6-1.
Prediction: Stefanos Tsitsipas to win in three sets.
