Hailing from Ajax, Ontario, Sum 41 is a Canadian rock band that formed in 1996. The current lineup includes Deryck Whibley, Dave “Brownsound” Baksh, Jason “Cone” McCaslin, Tom Thacker, and Frank Zummo. They signed with Island Records in 1999 and released their first EP, “Half Hour of Power,” in 2000.
Their debut album, “All Killer No Filler” (2001), gained widespread recognition, propelled by the hit single “Fat Lip.” Following successful releases like “Does This Look Infected?” (2002) and “Chuck” (2004), the band’s 2007 album “Underclass Hero” achieved their highest chart position. Their subsequent albums, including “Screaming Bloody Murder” (2011), received positive reviews but didn’t match the same commercial success.
Sum 41, originally called Kaspir, was formed in Ontario with members Deryck Whibley, Steve Jocz, Richard Roy, and Jon Marshall. Renamed to Sum 41 on their 41st day of vacation, they met manager Greig Nori and recorded demos before signing with Island Records and releasing their EP, Half Hour of Power.
Canadian punk band Sum 41 has made the surprising announcement that they are disbanding. While they did not provide a specific reason for the split, they did express their gratitude to fans and revealed plans for a final album and worldwide farewell tour.
Despite their upcoming commitments as support on The Offspring’s US tour and performances at European festivals, the band is determined to fulfil all their scheduled dates before embarking on their farewell headlining tour, which is expected to begin in the fall. More information regarding the tour and album release will be announced in the near future.
The band is starting their tour on the 1st of June at Beky Bay Beach Village and it ends in Las Vegas on the 22nd of October. Click here for the tickets.
