The world famous Italian plumber is getting his own movie with Chris Pratt as Mario. Here is everything you need to know about the movie.
The animated film based on Super Mario Bros. features an all-star voice cast led by Chris Pratt as the iconic Nintendo character. The Super Mario Bros movie will be produced by Nintendo and Illumination. Illumination is the same studio that has given us Despicable Me and Minions. Nintendo revealed the upcoming movie in their Nintendo Direct event in September 2021.
Nintendo has announced a fantastic cast for the movie. Chris Pratt will voice the iconic character, Mario. Charlie Day will take the role of his brother Luigi. Princess Peach will be voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy. Seth Rogen and Jack Black will appear in the movie as Donkey Kong and Bowser. We will get Keegan Michael-Key as Toad and Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong. Kamek will be voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson. Finishing off this list is Sebastian Maniscalco who will voice Spike.
In the Nintendo Direct event, they announced that the movie is scheduled to be released on 21 December 2022 in North America. They have not released an official worldwide release date now. But you can expect the movie to be released at the same time.
Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, the legendary creator of Mario, will produce the film along with the founder of Illumination, Chris Meledandri. The movie will be directed by director duo Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic. You may recognize them as the directors of Teen Titans Go! and Teen Titans Go! To the Movies. Matthew Fogel, the screenwriter of The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part and Minions: The Rise of Gru is onboard to pen the script.
Mario first appeared as the protagonist in Donkey Kong in 1981, and as the star of his own game in Super Mario Bros. in 1985. It followed Mario, a mustachioed plumber, and his lanky brother, Luigi, on their quest to save Princess Peach from the villain Bowser.
