Eugenie Bouchard is a former World No. 5 and a runner-up at Wimbledon, also a big fan of the soon-to-be-retired Roger Federer.
The Canadian tennis pro is currently participating in the Chennai Open. She has reached the quarterfinals of the singles event and the semifinals of the doubles event. Even in her busy schedule, she didn’t forget to take out time to pay homage to the legendary Roger Federer.
The 20-time Grand Slam champion announced on Thursday that the upcoming Laver Cup competition will be his last professional assignment. Federer brings down the curtains on a historic 24-year career. The tennis world has taken to social media to send in heartfelt messages and tributes to the former World No. 1 player.
Various tennis stars have put out their tweets to wish the Swiss stalwart all the best in his new chapter which begins in a few days. Eugenie Bouchard joined in as she posted a screenshot on Twitter where some of her old tweets regarding Federer can be seen. The 28-year-old Eugenie Bouchard is having a good time in India. She is getting more matches under her belt and looking better every time she is stepping onto the field.
She began her Chennai Open campaign with a comprehensive win against Joanne Zuger. Bouchard followed it up with another win in the second round against India’s Karman Kaur Thandi. In the quarterfinal, she will be facing Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska.
As far as the doubles competition is concerned, Bouchard is teaming up with Belgium’s Yanina Wickmayer. They won their first match against Katarzyna Kawa and Han Xinyun. In the quarterfinals, they defeated the team of Anastasia Gasanova and Oksana Selekhmeteva. Bouchard and Wickmayer will take on the team of Anna Blinkova and Natela Dzalamidze in the semifinals.
