We could see a cracker of a contest in the quarter-finals of the Tallinn Open on Friday when 2021 French Open champion – Barbora Krejcikova takes on the world No. 15 – Beatriz Haddad Maia.
The world No. 27 has reached the quarter-final stage of a competition for the fourth time this year. She has lost a couple of them and only won once during her determined run to the final in Sydney. Krejcikova came into the Tallinn Open on the back of a second-round defeat at the US Open to Aleksandra Krunic.
The 26-year-old Krejcikova began her campaign in Tallinn with a solid win in the round of 32 against Ajla Tomljanovic. After winning the first set convincingly, Krejcikova had to fight hard to win the match 6-1, 7-6 (7-3). In the round of 16, Krejcikova got the better of Marta Kostyuk in straight sets 7-5, 6-3.
The Brazilian tennis pro has been on a roll this season. She has managed to win her first two WTA tour-level titles at the Nottingham Open and the Birmingham Open. At the recently-concluded Toray Pan Pacific Open, the 26-year-old lost to Veronika Kudermetova after taking the first set.
Beatriz Haddad Maia began her journey in the Tallinn Open with a gritty performance against Wang Xinyu. The former won the match 6-3, 1-6, 6-4. In the round of 16, Haddad Maia took on Linda Noskova. The southpaw looked at ease in the first set but the 17-year-old Noskova gave a great account of herself in the second set before eventually losing the match 1-6, 5-7.
Barbora Krejcikova leads the head-to-head 1-0 against Barbora Krejcikova.
Prediction: Beatriz Haddad Maia to win in three sets.
