The world No. 18 Madison Keys begins her Tallinn Open campaign against Swiss qualifier Viktorija Golubic in the Tallinn Open on Monday.
The American tennis pro began the year on a strong note with a win in just the second tournament she took part in. It was in Adelaide and she defeated the likes of Coco Gauff and Alison Riske-Amritraj among others to lift the title. At the Australian Open, she made it to the semi-finals before losing to world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty. Keys reached the quarter-finals in the Indian Wells Masters but her form dipped following the tournament.
The 27-year-old made a mark in the Cincinnati Masters by reaching the semi-finals. She is coming into the Tallinn Open on the back of a third-round exit in Flushing Meadows.
The 29-year-old also had a good start to the year as she made it to the quarter-finals in Melbourne. However, things went downhill from thereon as she couldn’t string together three consecutive wins in the next 12 tournaments. She eventually produced a fine result at the Nottingham Open, as she made it to the semi-finals, where she lost to Alison Riske-Amritraj.
Golubic also made it to the quarter-finals in the Poland Open. She won her two qualifiers in the US Open but lost in the first round of the main draw against Jessica Pegula. So far in Tallinn, Golubic has defeated Daniela Vismane and Anna-Lena Friedsam in the qualifiers to progress to the main draw.
Viktorija Golubic leads the head-to-head scoreline 2-1 against Madison Keys. Their last meeting was a favorable one for the Swiss player as she defeated Keys 7-6, 6-3 in the round of 16 in the 2021 Wimbledon.
Prediction: Madison Keys to win in straight sets.
