Fourth seed Maxime Cressy takes on fellow American Sebastian Korda in the round of 16 of the Tel Aviv Open on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old will remember this year fondly as he won his first ATP singles title in his career in the 2022 Hall of Fame Open in Newport after coming back from a set down to defeat Alexander Bublik 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).
Cressy made it to a couple of finals this year. He reached the final in Melbourne but lost to the legendary Rafael Nadal in straight sets. Cressy also progressed to the final in the Eastbourne International but went down to compatriot Taylor Fritz in a closely-fought encounter. The world No. 34 is coming into the tournament after having to retire during his first-round match at the US Open against Marton Fucsovics.
The 22-year-old has not had a great season so far. He made it to the semifinals at the Estoril Open but there have not been too many other performances to write home about. Appearances in the round of 16 of the Monte-Carlo Masters and the Western & Southern Open are a couple of other decent results he has produced.
In the round of 32, Sebastian Korda put in a solid performance against Cem Ilkel to win the match 6-4, 6-4, and set up a date with Maxime Cressy.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0 as Maxime Cressy and Sebastian Korda have not faced each other before.
Prediction: Maxime Cressy to win in straight sets.
