The Bromley-based Emma Raducanu has seen a lot of ups and downs in her young career thus far – let’s take a look at how she fared in 2022.

Emma Raducanu made a name for herself after progressing from the qualifiers at the 2021 US Open and winning the title. That still remains her only title win thus far. She has undergone a prolonged slump in form and battled injuries throughout the year. However, her die-hard fans will keep their fingers crossed in anticipation of a turnaround in 2023.

2022 was her first full year on the tour. She was all set to begin her season at the Melbourne Summer Set but pulled out prior to the event owing to her recent bout with COVID-19. Raducanu eventually began her season at the Sydney International but her campaign ended with a crushing loss against Elena Rybakina in the first round.

Raducanu went on to make her debut at the Australian Open and began on a promising note, defeating former US Open champion Sloane Stephens. However, Danka Kovinic defeated her in the second round and Raducanu stated that a blister on her right hand was one of the reasons behind the defeat.

At the Abierto Zapopan, Raducanu retired during her epic first-round match against Daria Saville in the third set due to an injury. She skipped the Monterrey Open that followed.

In the BNP Paribas Open, she was the 11th seed and received a bye into the second round. She started well with a win against Caroline Garcia. In the round of 32, her campaign ended with a loss to Petra Martic. In Miami, Raducanu was once again the 11th seed. Her campaign ended in the round of 64 with a loss against Katerina Siniakova, who came back from a set down.

Raducanu had her best result of the season at the Stuttgart Open. She defeated Storm Sanders and Tamara Korpatsch to make it to the quarterfinals where she lost to eventual champion Iga Swiatek. This was the first time she reached the quarterfinals in a WTA 500 event. In Miami, Raducanu failed to progress beyond the round of 16.

Raducanu parted ways with her coach Torben Beltz after working together for just five months. She wanted to try a new training model and LTA coach Louis Cayer was brought in as a consultant with that in mind. He worked on different facets of Raducanu’s game including serves.

In the Italian Open, she retired during her match against Bianca Andreescu, a match which she entered with a back injury.
