Novak Djokovic is a Vegan, but does he have Celiac disease – here’s everything you need to know about it
Novak Djokovic has taken fitness and athleticism to a different level. It won’t be too wrong to say that he is one of the fittest athletes of all-time. His levels of fitness have always made fans curious about his diet and nutrition routine, but do you know that he turned into a Vegan mid-way through his career?
Djokovic is sensitive to Gluten and suffers from Celiac disease. He turned into a vegan in 2015 and relies on a completely plant-based diet. He made this change in his diet following health problems and a particular incident which saw him collapse on the court in the middle of a tennis match. Since then, the World No.1 has completely gone vegan and removed gluten from his diet.
Djokovic was so happy after he switched to a vegan that he even opened a vegan restaurant in Monaco, ‘Eqvita’ in 2016. “My diet hasn’t just changed my game, it’s changed myg life – my wellbeing. He believes that being a vegan makes him more aware of his body on the court and more alert. Djokovic has stated on record that going vegan completely changed him for the better.
Novak Djokovic has established himself as the Greatest Tennis player of all-time
Novak Djokovic continues to rule men’s Tennis despite the struggles surrounding his health. He is an all-time sporting legend and if there were any doubts previously, there shouldn’t be any more after his record-breaking title win at the French Open. Djokovic (23) now has won the most number of Grand Slam titles in the history of the sport – one more than his closest rival Rafael Nadal (22).
He also holds the record of being No.1 in the ATP rankings for the longest duration of time. He won a record tenth Australian Open title in Melbourne earlier this year and is well on his way to winning a ‘Calendar Grand Slam’, with the Wimbledon and the US Open scheduled to take place later this year.
Djokovic has bagged 67 ‘Big Titles’ which includes Grand Slam titles, ATP finals, ATP Masters 1000 tournaments and Olympic singles gold medals.
As things stand currently, Djoker is seven ‘Big Titles’ clear of his biggest rivals – Nadal (59) and Federer (54). Earlier this year, Djokovic became the third-oldest man in the Open Era to triumph at the Australian Open, trailing only Ken Rosewall and Federer, who both accomplished the feat aged 36.
With his victory against Tsitsipas in the championship clash, the Serbian also holds the record of winning 17 consecutive matches against Top 5 opponents at the tournament. Djokovic has still got a lot to offer to Tennis and it remains to be seen where he eventually finishes by the end of his career.
