Danielle Collins and Donna Vekic faced each other in the semi-finals of the 2022 San Diego Open on Sunday.
Both women put on a scintillating show and the Croatian qualifier managed to get the better of the former world No. 7 in a mouth-watering three-set affair. The match ended 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2) in favor of Vekic.
The 26-year-old defeated superstars like Maria Sakkari, Karolina Pliskova, and Aryna Sabalenka to set up a clash with the American veteran.
During the match, an interesting incident took place. Collins’ boyfriend was in the stadium to cheer for her. A video has surfaced on the internet where the handsome young man was seen filming Donna Vekic during the match. It is still not clear if he was filming the match to help his girlfriend during the video sessions later on. He was recording the video even between points and once Vekic looked toward him, he quickly put the phone down. This made the incident look creepier.
The video has gone viral and tennis fans have been quite critical of the incident and called out Collins’ boyfriend for the “weird” act.
