Novak Djokovic’s first-ever title-winning prize on the ATP tour was an iPod – here’s everything you need to know about it
Novak Djokovic claimed the first of his 94 singles tour titles by emerging victorious in the Dutch Open in Amersfoort, at the age of 19 in 2006. He secured the championship by defeating Nicolas Massu in the finals, showcasing an impressive performance that caught the attention of the world.
Remarkably, Djokovic didn’t lose a single set throughout the tournament, making a significant mark on the international tennis scene. Curiously, he was awarded an iPod for his triumph in the event. The silver-plated iPod was priced at around US$ 249 and had taken the world by storm.
The Dutch Open took place in Amersfoort, Netherlands, as part of the International Series of the 2006 ATP Tour. The tournament was held on outdoor clay courts from 17th July to 23rd July. Novak Djokovic, seeded third, emerged victorious, securing his first title of the year and the first professional title of his career.
Novak Djokovic has come a long way since 2006 and the Serbian tennis player currently possesses a net worth exceeding $250 million, ranking him as the second wealthiest Tennis player of all-time after Roger Federer. Additionally, since 2018, he has been associated with the footwear brand ASICS, and until May 2022, he served as an ambassador for Ultimate Software.
When it comes to luxurious properties, Djokovic resided in Monte Carlo for a duration of 15 years before his recent move to Marbella, Spain. In Marbella, he owns one of his many properties scattered around the globe.
Initially, he moved to Spain on a rental basis before deciding to purchase the house for 10 million euros, shortly before the onset of the covid-19 pandemic. This splendid property boasts nine bedrooms, eight bathrooms, and offers breathtaking views of the sea. Apart from Marbella, Djokovic also spends a considerable amount of time in his home in Belgrade.
