Wimbledon 2023 is scheduled to take place from July 3 to July 16 – let us take a look at the number of wildcards available for the tournament

As we approach another edition of the Wimbledon Championships, eyes will be on the number of wildcards being offered for the main draw of the tournament.

The tournament organizers typically allocate a few wildcards to give players who do not have a high enough ranking a chance to participate. These wildcards are often given to promising young players, local talents, or players returning from injury.

The number of wildcards for this edition hasn’t been announced yet. It will be announced closer to the tournament and the number is most likely to stay the same as the last edition. In 2022, eight Wildcards were offered each in Gentlemen’s and Ladies’ singles while seven were offered for both categories of Doubles.

Wimbledon history has proven that wild cards are far from space fillers in the draws. Who can forget the incredible title-winning of Goran Ivanisevic in 2001? Till date, he holds the record of being the only player to win a Wimbledon singles title as a wildcard entrant. It remains to be seen if history will repeat itself this season.
