Russian tennis star Karen Khachanov and his wife Veronika Shkliaeva have announced the birth of their second child. The couple welcomed their newborn boy on July 12 and have named him ‘Mikael’. Khachanov posted a picture of himself clutching his infant son’s hand on Instagram and shared the happy news with his fans and followers across the world. The Russian star also confirmed that both the mother and child are doing well.
Khachanov and Veronika started dating in 2011 – twelve years later, they are parents to two children. They tied the knot in 2016 and three years later, their first child ‘David’ was born. They are now a family of four and David is a big brother! Khachanov is not having the best of seasons but he will certainly be hoping that his newborn works as the lucky charm.
The Russian is understandably elated to have become a father for a second time and wrote on Instagram: “12.07.2023 welcome to the world my second baby boy Mikael.” Khachanov will get to spend some much-needed time with his family because he had earlier pulled out of Wimbledon due to an injury.
Karen Khachanov has won several ATP Tour titles, including his first ATP singles title at the Chengdu Open in 2016. He achieved his breakthrough in 2018 when he won three titles, including the biggest of his career at the Paris Masters, where he defeated Novak Djokovic in the final.
Khachanov reached his first Grand Slam quarterfinal at the French Open in 2018. In a memorable match, he defeated John Isner in a five-set thriller to advance to the semifinals. This achievement propelled him to a career-high ranking of No. 11 in the world. The achieved a career-high singles ranking of No. 8 in the world in July 2019. His consistent performances and strong results against top players have earned him a place among the world’s elite players.
Khachanov has recorded impressive wins over some of the top players in the world, including Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem, and Alexander Zverev. These victories have showcased his ability to compete at the highest level and established him as a formidable opponent. Besides individual glory, Khachanov has represented Russia in the Davis Cup, contributing to the team’s success. He played a vital role in Russia’s victory in the 2021 Davis Cup Finals, helping his country win the prestigious team event. He is currently ranked No.11 in ATP men’s singles.
